Cost Of Living

Bangalore, often referred to as the Silicon Valley of India, tends to have a higher cost of living compared to Pune. The average rent for a 1-bedroom apartment in the city centre of Bengaluru was around INR 25,000-30,000 per month, whereas, in Pune, it was approximately INR 15,000-20,000. Additionally, grocery and dining expenses in Bengaluru were about 10-15% higher than in Pune, making Pune a more affordable option for many residents.

Cost Of Rental Properties

In Bangalore, the average monthly rent for a 1-bedroom apartment in the city centre ranged from INR 25,000 to INR 30,000, while in Pune, the same type of apartment could be found for approximately INR 15,000 to INR 20,000 per month. For a 3-bedroom apartment in a central area of Bangalore, monthly rents averaged around INR 50,000 to INR 70,000, whereas in Pune, they were typically in the range of INR 30,000 to INR 45,000.

Cost Of Transport Comparison

Bangalore had a more extensive public transportation system, with the Namma Metro and a well-connected bus network. A monthly public transport pass in Bengaluru costs around INR 1,200, providing affordable commuting options. In Pune, the PMPML bus service was prevalent, but reliance on autorickshaws and taxis often resulted in higher daily transport expenses. The monthly pass for PMPML buses was approximately INR 800. However, with the launch of the Pune metro now transportation is more convenient in the city.

Cost Of Utility In Bangalore & Pune

Bangalore, being a larger metropolis, generally had slightly higher utility expenses. The average monthly utility bill for an 85-square-meter apartment, including electricity, heating, cooling, water, and garbage, was approximately INR 2,500 to INR 3,000 in Bengaluru. In Pune, for a similar setup, the cost was slightly lower, averaging around INR 2,000 to INR 2,500. Hence, based on this factor, we can assume that cost of utility in Pune is cheap in comparison with Bengaluru.

Food & Groceries Cost

In Bangalore, the average monthly expenditure for a family of four on groceries was around INR 4,000 to INR 5,000. In Pune, the same shopping basket cost approximately INR 3,500 to INR 4,500 per month. Pune’s lower food prices meant that residents could enjoy a similar quality of groceries for less, making it a cost-effective choice for many. Hence, irrespective of the family size, one can easily live in Pune as compared to Bangalore.

Medical Expenses Comparison

Both Bangalore and Pune offered comprehensive healthcare facilities, but the cost of medical expenses could vary. In Bengaluru, a standard doctor’s visit without insurance often ranged from INR 500 to INR 800. In Pune, the same visit costs approximately INR 400 to INR 700. However, these costs could fluctuate based on the speciality and location of the healthcare provider. Pune’s slightly lower medical expenses could translate into savings for individuals and families.

Recreation & Entertainment Cost

In Bangalore, a movie ticket typically costs around INR 150 to INR 250, while dining out at a mid-range restaurant for two people averaged between INR 800 to INR 1,200. Whereas, in Pune, movie tickets are generally priced between INR 120 to INR 200, and a similar restaurant meal costs approximately INR 600 to INR 1,000.
